No. Dispatching is an office job done on the phone and the computer, so there is no CDL, no truck and no degree required. Most of our students start with no freight background at all, and the training program begins from the basics of how loads, brokers and carriers fit together.
Most students finish in three to four weeks. There are no cohorts and no set start dates — you begin the day you enroll and book your live classes around your own schedule. Your classes, the recorded video library and all training program material stay open for a full year from enrollment.
Both. Live one-on-one classes run on Zoom between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM Pacific, seven days a week, and we teach students right across the USA. If you would rather learn face to face, you can attend our Tracy or Fresno campus in California. Our California training program guide compares the two.
DAT and Truckstop.com are the two boards almost every dispatcher works from, and you use both during the training program. You also learn the broker compliance platforms MyCarrierPackets, RMIS and Highway, and practice with real rate confirmations, BOLs and PODs rather than blank templates.
You receive a verified Awahe Academy Advanced Truck Dispatcher Certificate once you pass the final exam. To be clear about what that is: there is no federal or state license for truck dispatchers in the USA, so no school can issue one. The certificate shows carriers and brokers that you have been trained and assessed — it is not a government credential.
Dispatchers normally charge carriers a percentage of the revenue on each load they book, commonly in the region of five to ten percent, though some work on a flat fee per load. What you earn depends on how many trucks you dispatch and the lanes you book, so we teach you the pricing and negotiation side rather than quoting an income figure.
